Moody says Might And Power distance test suits Sheza Alibi

The Makybe Diva Stakes winner will tackle 2000 metres for the first time before dropping to 1500 metres in the $10 million Golden Eagle.

Peter Moody believes Sheza Alibi’s move from 2000 metres to 1500 metres within three weeks provides an ideal route into the Golden Eagle while testing her autumn staying prospects.

The four-year-old is scheduled to contest the Group 1 Might And Power Stakes at Caulfield on October 10, marking her first race over 1600 metres, before the $10 million Golden Eagle at Rosehill Gardens on October 31.

“I think that three-week break is perfect,” Moody told Giddy Up. “She’s a little bit more seasoned now. I wouldn’t have done it last preparation as a three-year-old, but now she’s more seasoned. I’ve got confidence in her ability to overcome it.”

Sheza Alibi won the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes at Flemington and Moody said the Might And Power would provide experience at the longer trip and help shape her autumn targets.

The Australian Cup could come into consideration, along with Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

The unusual 2000-metre route has not produced a Golden Eagle winner in the race’s first seven editions. Moody said the Cox Plate was never considered as a lead-in because its seven-day turnaround made it incompatible with the Golden Eagle.
