Stakes races in waiting for Resolute’s Snitzel filly Moscatel
Moscatel is set for a tilt at stakes company after making an impressive winning debut on the Kensington track on Monday, with the Listed Woodland Stakes at Scone under consideration.
The two-year-old Snitzel filly, sent out as the $3 favourite, led throughout under Tim Clark and extended late to score by 4.4 lengths over fellow debutant Sing Your Song, with Quarterback finishing third.
“She’s been a professional filly in everything that we’ve seen at home….an absolute sweetheart to do anything with,” said co-trainer Adrian Bott.
“She’s always been a very nice type right from the moment we purchased her. Obviously paying good money, but I think she’s got the ability to back that up.
“There’s been absolutely no rush. Got herself here on our own merits today and I’m sure there’s a lot of upside off the back of it.
“There is a nice two-year-old fillies race at Scone that she might be well suited to, the Listed Woodland Stakes. So that was the reason we wanted to be here today.
“That should give her enough time to get through to a race like that. If not, we could look through to Queensland.”
Moscatel was purchased for $1.6 million from the Silverdale Farm draft at the 2025 Magic Millions Gold Coast sale by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott Racing, Kestrel Thoroughbreds and US owner John Stewart’s Resolute Bloodstock whose colours the filly adorned.
She is the fourth foal out of Group 2-winning mare Sweet Sherry and a half-sister to three-time stakes winner Eneeza.
An I Am Invincible half-sister to Moscatel sold for $1.7 million to Go Bloodstock, trainer Michael Freedman and agent Andrew Williams at last month’s Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
