VRC plans to proceed with Turnbull Stakes meeting on Heavy 9 track

A Saturday morning inspection will assess conditions for the Group 1 meeting, with backup plans under consideration and outdoor activities moving indoors where possible.

Flemington’s Turnbull Stakes meeting remains on track for Saturday, with the course rated a Heavy 9 and another track assessment due on race morning.

The Victoria Racing Club (VRC) said its track management team was keeping watch on weather forecasts and conditions in consultation with Racing Victoria.

The club has made operational changes to accommodate the forecast, moving outdoor activities indoors where possible. All indoor venues offering hospitality, dining or member services remain open as planned.

The Bureau of Meteorology’s Friday evening forecast gave Melbourne a 95 per cent chance of rain on Saturday, with possible rainfall of 9–30mm and thunderstorms possible in the morning and afternoon.

Wet weather has also forced Friday night’s Cranbourne meeting and Monday’s Sale meeting to be transferred to the Pakenham Synthetic track.
