US Grade 1 winner Nysos retired to stud

Multiple US Grade 1 winner Nysos has been retired from racing and will stand at Coolmore’s Ashford Stud for the 2027 northern hemisphere breeding season.

The decision followed a routine veterinary examination that identified minor changes on diagnostic imaging, with trainer Bob Baffert and the ownership group opting to retire the son of Nyquist despite the horse remaining sound.

Nysos retires as a seven-time graded stakes winner, highlighted by victories in the 2025 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile and the Grade 1 Met Mile at Saratoga in his final start.

His only defeats came when second to Mindframe in the 2025 Churchill Downs Stakes and to Japanese star Forever Young in this year’s Saudi Cup, finishing his career with eight wins and two seconds from 10 starts and earnings exceeding US$5.2 million.

Coolmore said Nysos will commence stud duties at its Ashford operation in Kentucky in 2027, with his introductory service fee to be announced at a later date.
