Wagga win a breakthrough for Pinatubo

First-season stallions Pinatubo and Wild Ruler had impressive first-crop winners at Wagga and Muswellbrook respectively on Friday.

The John Sargent-trained Global Goal secured the first edition of the Inglis 2YO Challenge at Wagga to give Darley’s Pinatubo his first Australian winner.

Ridden by Dylan Gibbons, the well-bred filly threaded her way through the field to prove too strong for Friendly Fire, a gelding by Farnan, and the favourite, Portland Miss, a daughter of Portland Sky.

Global Goal is a daughter of Tides, a full sister to multiple Group 1 winner Shoals. She was a $250,000 purchase for Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock and races in the colours of Jonathan Munz’s Pinecliff Racing.

Pinatubo did have a southern hemisphere winner in New Zealand earlier this season.

At Muswellbrook, Wild Ruler colt Priory Park became his sire’s fourth winner, claiming a 1000m maiden.

Trained by Annabel and Rob Archibald, he was a $220,000 buy by his trainers, Will Johnson and Eric Lucas at the 2025 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearing sale, where he was offered by Riverstone Lodge.
