Winx delivers Too Darn Hot filly at Coolmore

Champion mare Winx has delivered a filly by Too Darn Hot at Coolmore Stud, with the foal arriving on Tuesday night after she went three weeks overdue.

The Winx Ownership Group said Winx and her third live foal were “happy and healthy in their paddock” following the birth on September 22.

Part-owner Debbie Kepitis said Winx had previously gone beyond her expected foaling date and the owners had allowed the pregnancy to run its course.

Coolmore’s Tom Magnier confirmed the birth had proceeded smoothly.

Her owners will discuss whether to mate her again this spring or give her a year off.

Kepitis said in April that her preference was to give Winx a break, although any decision would depend on the mare’s condition after foaling.

The new filly follows Winx’s Pierro filly and Winx’s now two-year-old colt by Snitzel. The Pierro filly, bought by Kepitis for a record $10 million at the 2024 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, was retired unraced earlier this year. The Snitzel colt was withdrawn from the 2026 Easter sale after a setback.

Winx retired in 2019 after 37 victories from 43 starts, including 25 Group 1 races.
