Sky Thoroughbred Central adds six programs as Racing NSW-led changes take shape
Racing NSW and Sky Racing will aim to widen the channel’s audience through new weekly shows, four vodcasts and simulcasts on News24 and Fox Sports News.
Racing NSW’s strategy to expand the offering of broadcaster Sky Thoroughbred Central is taking shape with six new programs added ahead of Sydney’s Everest Carnival.
In the first detailed programming changes since Racing NSW took charge of Sky Thoroughbred Central under its wider agreement with Tabcorp, it will look to broaden the channel’s coverage and distribution.
The expanded schedule includes two weekly programs and four vodcasts, with James McDonald, Emma Freedman, Brad Gray and Nick Berney among the on-air talent. Selected content will also be distributed through News24 and Fox Sports News.
“Sky Thoroughbred Central provides the industry with an opportunity to consistently inform and educate punters and engage them more with our participants,” Racing NSW acting chief executive Graeme Hinton said.
“Racing has so many stories to tell and this channel forms part of a broader strategy to tell them more often and to more people.”
Everest Carnival HQ will begin at 7.30pm on Tuesday, September 22, hosted by Greg Radley with analyst Nick Berney and presenter Ally Mosley.
First Up: Everest Carnival will screen at 10am on Saturdays and be simulcast on News24 and Fox Sports News. It will be hosted by journalist Julie Snook and include form analyst Brad Gray, while former jockey Rachel Hunt will contribute throughout the Carnival with access to leading stables.
There are also four vodcasts: Racenet’s Out the Gate, featuring Richard Callander and McDonald; Finding Winners, hosted by Freedman and Mosley; It’s Gold, hosted by Snook; and Crossing the Line, with Dave Stanley, Berney and Luke Marlow.
Racing NSW says it is looking to use the relationships with Tabcorp, NewsCorp and other partners to distribute more racing content beyond Sky Thoroughbred Central’s existing audience.
Once the Everest Carnival is over, additional changes are planned, including refreshed graphics linked to Tabcorp’s proposed national tote.
Tabcorp has branded the merged tote One Pool. The model would combine the NSW, SuperTAB and UniTAB pools, subject to final regulatory approvals.
The broader Racing NSW and Tabcorp agreement also preserves free-to-air coverage of 52 NSW Saturday metropolitan meetings on the Seven Network.
