Carlaw Park to move to 41-hectare Parkvale Farm near Matamata
Nick Fairweather and Nicole Brown will retain the Carlaw Park name at a property with 33 horse boxes and a 1000-metre track, while planning new projects.
Carlaw Park’s Nick Fairweather and Nicole Brown will move their spelling and yearling preparation operation to the 41-hectare Parkvale Farm near Matamata in October.
The business will keep its Carlaw Park name. Facilities there include 33 horse boxes, a 10-bay covered horse walker, two equine treadmills and an all-weather training track measuring 1000 metres. It is just over seven kilometres from Matamata Racecourse.
“This is a significant opportunity for us to diversify and gives us further room for expansion, but the basic principles will remain the same,” Fairweather told NZ Racing News.
“We will continue to focus on the things we believe we do well, spelling horses and preparing yearlings for major Australasian sales.”
Valachi Downs formerly used Parkvale for breaking and pre-training. Ray and Ann Cattle later bought the property. Trainer Jim Gibbs was among its earlier occupants.
“Another advantage is that Nicole knows the property from her time at Valachi Downs,” Fairweather said. “She knows how it operates and believes it is an ideal fit for Carlaw Park going forward.”
Carlaw Park was established in 2016 by Fairweather and Brown with Brown’s parents, Peter and Roslyn.
