TPD enters Southeast Asian racing market for first time

Selangor Turf Club (STC) and Perak Turf Club (PTC) have partnered with Total Performance Data (TPD) to introduce live GPS tracking and in-race graphics to Malaysian racing.

The technology will provide low-latency data including speed, position, stride information, running order and race timing for television graphics, on-track displays and race insights.

The deal makes Malaysia the 17th international racing jurisdiction serviced by TPD and its first in Southeast Asia.

TPD director of racing partnerships Adam Moore said, “Soon after celebrating our 10-year race tracking anniversary, we are thrilled to announce this major new partnership with Selangor Turf Club and Perak Turf Club. A decade on, Malaysia becomes the 17th international racing jurisdiction to be serviced by TPD and, significantly, is the first within the broader Southeast Asia region.

“The Selangor and Perak teams are a pleasure to work with, and we look forward to supporting the exciting future ambitions of both clubs and the future of Malaysian racing.”

Selangor Turf Club deputy chairman Clement Chew said the technology would deliver “international class broadcasting standards and quality of information and analytics to our racing fans”.

Perak Turf Club CEO Tan Kah Soon said the partnership would enhance the race-day experience and modernise the clubs’ racing product.

The Gmax Race System, developed by TPD partner Gmax Technology in Cambridge, UK, will track all horses in real time. The system is expected to be operational at both racecourses later this year.

The Selangor Turf Club recently signed an agreement with Australian publicly listed racing data and media company Racing and Sports.
