Blue Point colt tops Goffs Premier Sale at £250,000
A Blue Point colt out of Happy Romance topped the opening session of the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale at Doncaster on Tuesday, selling for £250,000 (AU$480,000) to Rabbah Bloodstock in a standout result for breeder Oliver McMurray and consignor Chasemore Farm.
The colt represented a remarkable return for McMurray, who purchased Happy Romance for just £25,000 at the same sale in 2019. Her first foal exceeded expectations, with McMurray admitting he had hoped for a price between £100,000 and £150,000.
Purchased on behalf of trainer Ismail Mohammed, the colt marked a breakthrough moment for Chasemore Farm, which consigned under its own banner for the first time after previously operating through WH Bloodstock.
Elsewhere, a Sioux Nation filly sold for £150,000 to leading breeze-up consignor Willie Browne after being pinhooked for €70,000 earlier this year by Rigsdale Stud.
Despite the record-topping price, overall trade softened. The clearance rate fell to 81 per cent, while average and median prices declined to £43,906 and £32,000 respectively. Aggregate also dipped slightly year-on-year.
