🔒 🔒 Cookie-cutter bookies – The online gambling platform built in 24 days
Yolo Investments, the venture gaming firm founded by Australian entrepreneur Tim Heath, claims an AI-native team launched a fully licensed real-money casino and sportsbook in just 24 days. It is just the latest example of how AI will disrupt the global gambling industry.

Tim Heath may have taken a step back from the heady days of his Yolo Investments piloting the ubiquitous Sportsbet.io brand, but his ambition to disrupt and dominate the global gambling landscape is not diminished, judging by his latest Substack post.
Heath, who hailed from humble origins in Warracknabeal, the hometown of Australian musician Nick Cave and playwright Jack Hibberd, has spearheaded Yolo through a major strategic shift, away from the brand-first approach that built his fortune and carried him to such prominence that he became the target of a kidnapping attempt.
He has said that it took his AI-powered team less than four weeks to build a bookmaker and casino, from the first line of code to the first real-money customer placing a bet on a fully licensed operation.
In an industry where platform builds can stretch across 12 to 18 months, involving dozens of engineers, compliance teams, integrations and testing cycles, the new platform was created using a nine-person team – six of them software engineers.
The team built a platform complete with deposits and withdrawals, live casino products, in-play sports betting, player protection controls, kill switches and a full audit trail. More than 257,000 lines of code were generated, backed by over 5100 tests.
For decades, online gambling operators have relied on large platform providers. Operators like BetMakers and others have tried to solve this problem by providing ready-made platform solutions with fully integrated surfaces, but if Heath’s claim proves correct, it may be a game changer.
In a blog post detailing the project, the company describes itself not as a business that uses AI but as one organised around it.
“This is not a company that happens to use AI. Every operational function, from reconciliation and financial close to player-integrity monitoring, is a workflow an agent executes and a human signs off,” it said.

“If software goes to zero, a company whose moat is software dies. A company whose moat is a decade of data, refined by intelligence that improves with every query, gets stronger as software gets cheaper,” Heath said.
In that new vision, operators do not pay for software licences. They pay for better judgement: AI that helps identify valuable customers, optimise player journeys, manage risk or improve retention.
The blog post was titled: Data is the new oil. The refinery is what makes it valuable.
“When Clive Humby coined “data is the new oil” in 2006, everyone remembered the first sentence and forgot the second: unrefined, it cannot really be used. Oil is worthless until it becomes fuel. Data is worthless until it becomes decisions,” Heath wrote.
“This industry has sat on lakes of crude for twenty years and refined almost none of it, because refining took analysts, quarters and committees. I know, because I sat on one of the biggest lakes myself.
“What has changed is the refinery.”
Heath says the company building in this way is not Yolo Investments, but rather a company it invested in.
“What Yolo contributes is the crude: more than a decade of transactional and behavioural data from operating at scale, across cycles, markets, products and player generations, fused with industry benchmarks, market-demand data and on-chain analytics,” he said.
And Yolo sees the application far beyond casinos and sportsbooks.
“A fintech has the same layers: its own transaction data, industry flow, macro conditions, the rails underneath,” Heath wrote.
“An e-commerce business has the same lobby problem and the same buying team whose judgement is part relationship. Any digital business with a licence, a customer base and a decade of behaviour is sitting on the same unrefined asset.”
“Build the architecture once. Regenerate the product per market. Own the data. Meter the judgement.
