Brodie Loy suspended and Jordan Quince fined over Gundagai jockey-room clash

Stewards found the pair had to be physically separated in the female jockeys’ room after Loy criticised Quince’s ride at Gundagai.

Racing NSW stewards have suspended jockey Brodie Loy for three weeks and imposed a $1000 fine on apprentice Jordan Quince, with $500 suspended, over a confrontation at Gundagai on September 6.

Loy has lodged an appeal, Racing NSW said in announcing the penalties.

Stewards reduced Loy’s suspension from a four-week starting point to three weeks after taking into account his early guilty plea and remorse. The suspension is scheduled to start on October 12, with Loy eligible to resume race riding on November 2.

Quince’s penalty took into account her early guilty plea and mitigating factors, including her inexperience. Half of her $1000 fine was suspended for 12 months under AR283(5), provided she is not found to have breached conduct-related rules during that period, leaving $500 payable.

Both penalties were imposed under AR228(b).

Stewards opened their inquiry on October 1, almost four weeks after the meeting.

“The inquiry concerned an exchange between the riders after the race, during which Mr Loy expressed dissatisfaction with Ms Quince’s riding, and a subsequent heated verbal confrontation between both parties in the female jockeys’ room which required Mr Loy and Ms Quince to be physically separated by fellow riders and Clerk of Scales Mr Graeme Power,” Racing NSW said.

The race was the C E Readford Memorial Benchmark 58 Handicap. Loy finished seventh on Tis No Man, 10.8 lengths from the winner. Quince was eighth aboard Win The Day, beaten 17.4 lengths.
