‘Cannot be compared’ – Magic Millions releases catalogue for 2026 Gold Coast Yearling Sale

Magic Millions has compiled a 980-lot Book 1 catalogue for its season-opening Gold Coast Yearling Sale in 2026.

The boss of Magic Millions says the company’s Gold Coast Yearling Sale in January “stands above all others” and Barry Bowditch is confident that statement will hold true after unveiling the catalogue for its 2026 flagship auction.

Next year’s sale will present buyers with the opportunity to acquire siblings to Group 1 winners such as Artorius, Benedetta, Farnan, Golden Mile, Imperatriz, In Secret, Joliestar, Manaal, Stay Inside, Sunlight and Super Seth.

The January 13 to 18 sale will have progeny by 122 different stallions, including 14 first-season sires, while there is also offspring of 31 Group 1 winners including Absolut Glam, Avantage, Graceful Girl, Hiyaam, Hungry Heart, Instant Celebrity, Krone, Levante, Loving Gaby, Mossfun, Odeum, Silent Sedition, Snapdancer and Unforgotten.

Book 1 has a catalogue of 980 horses with another 240 lots to go under the hammer in Book 2.

Bowditch, the Magic Millions managing director, points to recent Group 1-winning sale graduates such as Apocalyptic, Autumn Boy, Charm Stone, Ole Dancer, Stefi Magnetica and Cool Archie as a major drawcard for buyers to come to the Gold Coast during the summer holiday season.

“We can all sit there at the end of the day and speak about the million dollar or the high-level horses we sell,” Bowditch told The Straight.

“But it’s ensuring we’ve got a horse that can represent all parts of the market and ensure that vendors can be provided with buyers at all ends of the market and I think this catalogue really represents that.

“And I think the graduate success in recent years, if you compare it to any other sale in the country, cannot be compared.

“It’s elite and it stands out above all other sales in Australia.”

Because of when New Year’s Day falls, next year’s Magic Millions sale will start on Tuesday, January 13, a week later than normal, with on-complex inspections at the auction house’s Bundall facility to begin on January 7.

“We are delighted with the way the catalogue’s been put together.,” he said.

“I think when you look at the highlight horses, the stallions and the mares that some of these horses are out of, and when you take into account what we believe they look like, it’s exciting, and I think we’ve got a catalogue that will be very well received.

“And I think when they get out there on inspections, they’re going to get excited about what we have to offer.”

Magic Millions has also refined its sale schedule, condensing its Book 2 sale into one Sunday session.

This year, Magic Millions shelved its traditional Saturday night sale, the end of Book 1, by having an extended super session on Friday.

That will again be the case in 2026, with Saturday reserved for the Magic Millions race day.

The shortened schedule will also help buyers and freelance leaders who will also be attending the New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Yearling Sale, which starts the following week, on Sunday, January 25.

“I think market feedback has been that we want to give everyone the best opportunity to get as many eyes on horses,” Bowditch said.

“I think the revised Book 2 format allows us to get those horses in a little bit earlier, and therefore, they get more inspection time all on the ground. We had sort of a staggered arrival for them in years gone by and that’s not the case anymore.”
