Woollam starts Eagle Farm grandstand works as John Power Stand demolition begins
Early works have started on the $100 million grandstand redevelopment at Eagle Farm, with Woollam Constructions appointed to deliver the first stage, Racing Queensland said.
Racing Queensland and the Brisbane Racing Club chose Woollam as preferred contractor after a competitive tender. Stage 1 covers demolition of the John Power Stand, make-good works to the adjoining Heritage Stand, site establishment, site preparation and services infrastructure, and temporary facilities for patrons, including a single-storey marquee.
The John Power Stand holds 4000 people and has served racegoers since 1957.
The Queensland Government approved $25 million from the Racing Infrastructure Fund in December 2025, covering the first two stages. Stage 2 takes in the Paddock Stand refurbishment and Heritage Stand works.
When the funding was announced in January, demolition was slated to begin in August, once the 2026 Winter Carnival finished.
Stage 1 is anticipated to be completed in May 2027, subject to confirmation. Stage 2 will begin after the 2027 Queensland Racing Carnival and is expected to be finished by May 2028.
The Brisbane Racing Club told members at its annual general meeting this month that demolition would be done by February 2027, with an upgraded St Leger Lawn precinct due by March, and that racing and scheduled black-type races would continue at Eagle Farm throughout.
