Loy has jockeys’ room confrontation ban reduced
Canberra-based Brodie Loy has had his riding suspension reduced from three weeks to 12 days on appeal, allowing the jockey to resume riding on October 31.
The Racing NSW Appeal Panel handed down its decision on Thursday, reducing the penalty imposed over an incident involving apprentice Jordan Quince in the female jockeys’ room at Gundagai on September 6.
Loy pleaded guilty to misconduct after entering the room and aggressively confronting Quince, using offensive language before the pair had to be physically separated, with Quince later throwing a brush at him as he left.
The panel rejected Loy’s argument that the penalty was excessive and inconsistent with the $1,000 fine imposed on Quince, finding the senior jockey had greater culpability as the instigator of the confrontation.
However, the panel reduced the suspension after considering Loy’s subsequent counselling with Racing NSW psychologist Samantha Gordon, noting his engagement in self-reflection and efforts to develop positive behavioural change.
The revised suspension runs from October 18 to October 30, inclusive.
