Macau’s Lau returns to training in Malaysia

Highly successful Macau trainer Joe Lau will resume his training career in his home country of Malaysia after a two-year absence from the sport.

A decorated trainer in the gambling city of Macau until racing was brought to a close in March 2024, Malaysia-born Lau took a break from the industry, often spotted at horse sales in Sydney where is son Aaron is assistant trainer to Peter Snowden at Randwick during his hiatus.

Lau has relocated to Malaysia, opening a stable at Selangor Turf Club in Kuala Lumpur and is set to have his first runner, the New Zealand-bred Mega Success, at Sunday’s race meeting.

he has eight horses in work at present, with just two of them having previously raced in Malaysia.
