Newhaven Park unveils introductory stud fee for Group 1 star Mo’unga
Newhaven Park will showcase exciting newcomer Mo’unga alongside two established sires on its 2024 stallion roster.

Mo’unga will join fellow Group 1 winners Xtravagant and Cool Aza Beel at the historic stud with the New Zealand-bred expected to be popular with breeders.
Newhaven secured Mo’unga for stud duties last year and the weight-for-age star raced on after finishing second to Dubai Honour in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes before retiring after three spring appearances.
In a 29-start career that opened on a winning note as a late-season two-year-old, Mo’unga won four more races and collected 11 placings, amassing more than $3.8 million in prize money.
He claimed his first Group 1 victory in the 2021 Rosehill Guineas and added a second elite-level win in accounting for Verry Elleegant in the Winx Stakes.
In defeat, Mo’unga lost nothing against the best on offer with Group 1 placings in the Randwick Guineas, Makybe Diva Stakes (twice), Mackinnon Stakes (twice), Futurity Stakes, Underwood Stakes, Chipping Norton Stakes, Ranvet Stakes and the Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
Mo’unga will be offered at an introductory fee of $27,500 (incl GST).
Bred by Waikato Stud, Mo’unga is a son of champion sire Savabeel out of the Stakes-placed O’Reilly mare Chandelier, a sister to eight winners including Group 2 victress Irlanda and is from the family of Group 1-winning Chenille.
Newhaven Park principal John Kelly said Mo’unga possessed soundness and durability on the racetrack – traits that he expects will be passed on to his progeny.
“He’s also a beautiful specimen, fetching $325,000 as a yearling, his physical certainly matches up to his racing credentials,” Kelly said.
“We’re very keen on New Zealand bloodlines here and we hope that his pedigree also offers a lot of options for Australian breeders.”
A fellow dual Group 1 winner on the Newhaven Park roster will be the champion New Zealand three-year-old, Xtravagant, standing at $16,500 (incl GST) for the 2024 season.
Rounding out the Newhaven Park lineup is Cool Aza Beel, who will stand at $16,500 (incl GST).
