Bloodstock agent Sheamus Mills set a new record price for a yearling at the Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale, paying $625,000 for the sister to Group 1 winner Bustler.

The Playing God filly, offered by Mungrup, sold as Lot 41 on the first day and will head to Victoria after Mills eclipsed the sale’s previous high of $375,000, set earlier on a record-breaking day of trade.

Bustler won the Railway Stakes late last year for Neville Parnham, while their half-brotehr A Lot Of Good Men was runner-up in a WA Guineas.

“I say this with all due respect,” Mills said. “I don’t want to go to a sale and just buy the most expensive horse.”

“I want to go to a sale and buy a horse that I really, really rate as a racehorse. I haven’t seen a better physical specimen this year.”

“She physically, just to me, looked like everything you’d want in a racehorse.”

It was a massive result for Western Australian breeder Gray Williamson, who also bred the filly’s dam Cosmah Domination.

“It actually is unbelievable,” he said. “We thought she would sell well and make over $400,000 maybe – there was a lot of interest in her.”

“I’ve been doing this for a long time and to have a filly like that go through and to be appreciated for what she is and to make that sort of money we are absolutely stoked.”

Earlier, a Brazen Beau colt from Yarradale Stud sold for $375,000 sold to Grant and Alana Williams in conjunction with bloodstock agent Suman Hedge and China Horse Club.

“We thought he was the best colt in the sale,” Grant Williams said. “We went to Sydney last week and I don’t think we saw one as good as that.”

“He’s got a beautiful body – nice and strong – good attitude. He ticked all of our boxes. It (the price) was right on our limit and we were hoping it wouldn’t go any further.”

The day’s trade saw a record average price of over $99,000 with a record gross of over $14.18 million. The clearance rate currently sits at over 79 per cent.
