Sav On Ice finds best at right time for second Balaklava Cup

Sav On Ice has emerged from a 12-month form slump to claim his second $130,000 Balaklava Cup.

Out of the placings in five starts since confirming his status as one of South Australia’s most promising horses in winning last year’s race, Sav On Ice turned back the clock in the Listed race on Wednesday.

Sent forward to race outside the leader, Sav On Ice ($21) found a strong kick under Kayla Crowther to hold out topweight Air Assault ($8.50) in a 1-1/4 length win.

The five-year-old son of Puissance De Lune was having his third start for new trainer Garret Lynch.

“We knew he was going really well, but we just didn’t know exactly where he was at,” Lynch told Racing.com.

“He’s improved every run and yeah, this is a little bit of a surprise, but a really good one.”
