Snitzel colt Equerry tops Inglis Digital sale, bound for Hong Kong
The Chris Waller-trained Equerry has changed hands in an Inglis Digital auction transaction less than 24 hours after a Melbourne Cup day win at Randwick.
A three-year-old Snitzel colt, raced by a Coolmore-backed syndicate, Equerry fetched $340,000 as the top-priced Lot in Inglis’ early November sale.
Equerry, who cost $500,000 at the Australian Easter Yearling Sale, sold to Hong Kong owner T Leung, who was buying in Australia for the first by himself.
“He looks a very promising young horse that we think will fit in well up in Hong Kong,’’ Leung said.
“We will sit down in coming days to work out a trainer and a program for him but I think he is a very exciting horse.’’
Equerry made it two wins in four starts at Randwick, advancing his earnings to $121,000.
A 2.5 per cent share in VRC Oaks contender Morisu Ojo has made $7500, valuing the filly at $300,000 ahead of her longshot assignment at Flemington on Thursday.
Another Oaks day acceptor also figured at the auction with a 5 per cent share in South Australian Derby runner-up Statuario selling for $20,000.
Statuario will contest Subzero Handicap, a race for grey-coloured horses.
A 5 per cent in Farnan colt Farnicle, a last-start runner-up in the $500,000 Tapp-Craig at Rosehill, made $22,000.
In total, the sale grossed $2,290,800.
