Stingray incident ends Lady Of Camelot’s winter campaign

A stingray wound could spell the end of the career of Golden Slipper winner Lady Of Camelot.

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained filly was stung on her near foreleg during a beach swim and Bott advised stewards that she would not take her place in Saturday’s Doomben 10,000.

It is now apparent that the mare’s Brisbane campaign is over as is any possible trip to Royal Ascot.

The setback could mean that she has run her last race, with owner Sir Owen Glenn now deciding whether to retire the four-year-old to join his broodmare band.

Her misfortune has seen Beadman move into the final field for the Group 1 sprint on Saturday. He will be ridden by champion jockey James McDonald, unless second emergency Napoleonic gets in, on which case, McDonald will switch rides.
