Tasracing lifts Launceston night stakes and riding fees

The allocation raises purses by $2,000 to $5,000 at 18 night meetings, alongside a $150,000 Listed 3YO Cup, a Magic Millions bonus and a new date for the Elwick Stakes.

Tasracing will lift prize money by $2,000 to $5,000 across specified race categories at 18 Launceston night meetings and raise riding fees under its 2026/27 thoroughbred funding allocation.

The changes, confirmed this week in conjunction with the Thoroughbred Advisory Network (TAN), take effect on October 16.

Maiden and combined Maiden/Class 1 races will rise from $25,000 to $30,000, while Benchmark 72 races receive the same $5,000 increase, moving from $27,000 to $32,000.

Class 1, Class 2, Class 3 and Class 5 races each gain $3,000, taking their respective purses to $29,000, $30,000, $31,000 and $33,000.

Races below Benchmark 62 will increase from $20,000 to $22,000. Benchmark 64/70 races rise from $25,000 to $27,000, and Benchmark 76 races from $30,000 to $32,000.

Riding fees will increase by $10, from $245 to $255, from the same date.

The stakes increases cover 18 of Launceston’s 22 scheduled night meetings in 2026/27.

The Listed 3YO Cup will rise from $125,000 to $150,000 following its black-type upgrade. The race is scheduled for the November 20 Launceston night meeting, when it will be run at Listed level for the first time.

The Magic Millions 2YO on February 5, 2027, will carry a TASBRED bonus.

The 2027 Listed Elwick Stakes will move from its January position in the calendar to May.
