RWWA seeks two new board directors as governance review continues
The vacancies arrive while an independent panel examines the finances and governance of WA racing, and while Mike Saunders holds the chief executive role on an interim basis.
Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) has opened expressions of interest for two director positions on its board.
RWWA’s October 9 notice does not identify which two board positions are being advertised and directs prospective applicants to the Department of Local Government, Industry Regulation and Safety.
The recruitment comes as an independent review examines the financial sustainability and governance of WA racing, including the structures under the RWWA Act. Former Mandurah MLA David Templeman, Professor Warren Harding AM and John Nicolaou lead the review, which is expected to finish by the end of 2026.
The search for directors also coincides with a change in RWWA’s executive leadership. Chief wagering officer Mike Saunders was appointed chief executive until July 31, 2027. Outgoing chief executive Ian Edwards stays until November 13 to support the handover.
