TAB selects Jimmysstar for second Everest start
Jimmysstar will return to tackle The Everest this year after being officially selected by TAB for its slot on Thursday.
TAB has selected Jimmysstar for its slot in the $20 million TAB Everest, giving the Ciaron Maher-trained sprinter a second start in the 1200-metre race.
Jimmysstar finished third behind Ka Ying Rising and Tempted in last year’s race, also representing TAB, and returns after winning the Group 1 Manikato Stakes at Caulfield on September 27.
“Jimmy was outstanding last year and his win in the Manikato Stakes showed he is peaking at the right time to be super competitive in the TAB Everest,” TAB’s head of commercial wagering, Brett Boyd, said.
“We think the strong tempo will suit him perfectly. Nobody is under any illusion of the challenge we face, but outside of the two favourites he is clearly the best credentialled sprinter remaining.
“We’re also thrilled to partner with the Maher stable again, we won the race together with Bella Nipotina in 2024 and Ciaron and his team are always a pleasure to work with.
“We like to choose horses who will peak for the race and Jimmy’s win in the Manikato showed he was ready for a career-best performance next Saturday.”
TAB and Maher won the 2024 Everest with Bella Nipotina.
Nash Rawiller has been booked to ride Jimmysstar, with managing owner Ozzie Kheir confirming the jockey arrangement while the slot agreement was being finalised.
Jimmysstar’s selection follows confirmation of Giga Kick for Coolmore’s slot and Joliestar for Chris Waller Racing. Coolmore selected Giga Kick after injury ruled out Guest House, winner of the Golden Slipper.
