Newgate reduces stallion fees to meet market as 2024 roster expands

Eleven Newgate Stud Farm stallions have figured in service fee reductions aimed at maintaining the Hunter Valley breeding operation’s position as a market leader in the Australian industry.

In announcing Newgate’s 2024 stallion fees, managing director Henry Field says the farm wants to give breeders the best opportunity to make a profit.

“We know without the breeders we have no business. We have priced our service fees to reflect that,” Field said.

“We were the leading stallion farm by market share in Australia in 2023 and to have an even bigger and better roster in 2024 with three unbelievably exciting new stallions, it really bodes well for the future.

“Not only for us but our customers and clients who support us.”

Newgate will increase its roster from 14 to 17 stallions with the addition of three-time Group 1 winner Militarize, Coolmore Stud Stakes hero Ozzmosis and King’s Gambit, a son of I Am Invincible.

Ozzmosis will be the most expensive of the newcomers, standing at an introductory fee of $44,000.

Militarize is at $38,500 while King’s Gambit is advertised at $22,000.

Of Newgate’s existing roster, only Tassort has figured in a fee hike off the back of a promising start to his stud career.

The sire of Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes winner Manaal among five individual winners from just 15 runners, Tassort will stand at $38,500 – up from $11,000 in 2023.

The stud’s highest-priced stallion, Extreme Choice, remains at $275,000.

Golden Slipper winner Stay Inside, whose oldest crop are foals, has had his service fee reduced from $77,000 to $55,000.

Shuttle sire and Cox Plate winner State Of Rest will stand at $27,500 after a Southern Hemisphere introductory fee of $44,000 in 2023.
