Nick Foot steps away from Sportsbet racing analyst role

Prominent AFL umpire Nick Foot has ended his involvement with Sportsbet as an on-air host and racing analyst.

Foot, a former physical education teacher who has been an AFL umpire for 14 years, has worked part-time for Sportsbet since the start of 2025.

He served as an on-air talent for the Get On program, broadcast on both Racing.com and the Seven network.

Foot’s dual roles had come under significant scrutiny following a much-publicised report of Port Adelaide’s Zak Butters for abusive language during a match last month.

While neither party suggested that Foot’s role with Sportsbet was related to the on-field controversy, in the fallout, his position at the betting company was questioned by several high-profile former players and media identities.

His departure was confirmed by Seven football journalist Mitch Cleary on Monday.

“I’m a proud horse racing and umpiring person and continue to share a passion for both,” Foot told Cleary.

“Playing a small part in the AFL is a privilege, and I look forward to continuing to serve the game with professionalism in my role for years to come.”

Foot has also been the head of content and a form analyst for the 2 Units Podcast.
