Racing SA extends fuel relief package

Racing SA has confirmed that its temporary fuel relief package will be extended through May, maintaining targeted financial support for industry participants and clubs.

Introduced on April 1, the package is designed to ease cost pressures on trainers, riders, and racing clubs, particularly those travelling to regional meetings or facing higher expenses tied to venue operations, track preparation, and transport.

While fuel supply constraints and prices have shown some improvement, Racing SA said the relief measures will remain in place until May 31 to ensure continued stability across the industry.

Under the package, trainers receive travel-based payments calculated on round-trip distance, with $25 per starter (capped at $50) for trips up to 50km, $50 per starter (capped at $100) for 51km to 150km, and $75 per starter (capped at $150) for journeys of 151km or more.

Riders are also supported through a $50 per-meeting payment for South Australian jockeys who earn three or fewer riding fees at a race meeting.

Clubs, meanwhile, receive an additional $1,000 per meeting to help offset rising costs associated with track preparation, venue maintenance, and operational demands.
